AGE REQUIREMENTS

Please note that we require all volunteers to be at least 16 years of age or older on the date of the event.  Volunteers 16 & 17 years of age will require Parents/Legal Guardian consent when registering online.

CONFIRMATION LETTER OF VOLUNTEER SERVICES

A confirmation letter of volunteer hours will be provided upon request. If you require a letter recognizing your volunteer hours, please indicate your request on the Volunteer Online Registration Form.

MANDATORY ORIENTATION

Please note that there will be a mandatory orientation for all volunteers. All volunteers are required to attend this Orientation Session.

CAN I SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER WITH A FRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER?

Absolutely! To increase the chances of volunteering with your friend or family member, please ensure that you and your friend sign-up for the same position and shift. We will make every effort to accommodate your request, however, we can’t guarantee that you’ll work together. Your Area Supervisor may need you to work separately during your respective shift.

PRE-EVENT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS


EVENT DAY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS – SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2017


 

PRE-EVENT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

ROUTE INSPECTIONS

Shifts: Volunteers will be contacted and scheduled for route inspections throughout the cycling season.
Duration: 1 to 5 Hours depending on route.
Suitable for experienced cyclists only.

Volunteers are needed to test routes months before the event and pre-ride routes on the morning of the event. Volunteers will ensure routes are safe, signage is visible (on the day of the event) and the condition of the roads and sidewalks are rideable. Volunteers will be asked to make notes and take pictures of any concerns they have regarding the routes.


REGISTRATION TABLE VOLUNTEERS – BEFORE THE EVENT

September 2, 2017 - Shift: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (5 Hrs)
September 3, 2017 - Shift: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (5 Hrs)
September 9, 2017 - Shift: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (5 Hrs)
September 10, 2017 - Shift: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (5 Hrs)

Volunteers are needed to sign-in participants and distribute wrist bands as they arrive.  We are looking for volunteers who are able to work efficiently under pressure and provide excellent customer service to our participants. We expect thousands of participants to arrive on the above dates.


ROUTE SIGN VOLUNTEERS – SET UP/TAKE DOWN OF SIGNAGE

Day Shifts: September 15, 16 & 18 (Time TBC)

Different coloured route signs directing riders through the six different ride options (5 km, 15 km, 30 km, 50 km, 75 km & 100 km) are placed on the routes by volunteers. The job is executed a couple of days before the event and checked early morning on event day (Sunday, September 17, 2017). The signs are then removed the day after the event. Detailed instructions, route signs and equipment will be provided. A vehicle and drivers license is required for this position.

REGISTRATION TABLE VOLUNTEERS

Shift: 5:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (6 Hrs)

Volunteers are needed to sign-in participants as they arrive and distribute wrist bands.  We are looking for volunteers who are able to work efficiently under pressure and provide excellent customer service. We expect that thousands of participants will need to sign-in between 5:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided.


MORNING VOLUNTEERS

Shift: 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (4 Hrs)

Morning Volunteers will assist in the set-up of the event including, but not limited to, the registration tables, assisting vendors, barricades, start/finish line, etc.  Your role may also include greeting participants and directing them to the registration table or start line, assisting with the Quench Buggy water station, helping direct traffic/parking, or other duties as assigned.  Some positions may require light lifting.  We are looking for volunteers who are flexible and willing to help out in any capacity they can.


DAYTIME VOLUNTEERS

Shift: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (4 Hrs)

Daytime Volunteers will provide support during the event.  As a Daytime Volunteer, your responsibilities may include greeting participants and directing them to the registration tables, start line, or food station; assisting with the Quench Buggy water station; helping direct traffic/parking, or other duties as assigned.  We are looking for volunteers who are flexible and willing to help out in any capacity they can.


AFTERNOON VOLUNTEERS

Shift: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (4 Hrs)

Afternoon Volunteers will provide support during the afternoon and assist with clean-up/take-down of the venue.  As an Afternoon Volunteer, your role may include: directing participants to the food station, helping participants refill water bottles from the Quench Buggy, clean-up of tables and barricades, or other duties as assigned.  Some positions may require light lifting.   We are looking for volunteers who are flexible and willing to help out in any capacity they can.


RIDE MARSHALS

Shift 1: 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (4.5 Hrs) 
Shift 2: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. (4.5 Hrs

Ride Marshals will be stationed along each of the routes to guide participants during rides.  You will be responsible for directing riders as they pass your designated area and assisting with the take-down of signs and road markers at the end of the ride.  We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and confident in directing a large crowd, and able to work independently. Marshals will be transported (pick-up/drop-off) by a Shuttle Bus from Celebration Square.


REST STOP VOLUNTEERS

Rest Stop 1: 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (4Hrs)
Rest Stop 2: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (4 Hrs)

Volunteers will be stationed at rest stops to ensure that snacks and drinks are set-up and available for riders.  Rest Stop Volunteers will be responsible for set-up and take-down of the Rest Stop and will maintain the Rest Stop throughout their shift.  We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, customer-service oriented and able to work independently. 


FOOD STATION VOLUNTEERS

Shift: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (4 Hrs)

The food stations get busy quickly and we need volunteers to help keep them organized!  Volunteers will ensure that participants are at the correct food station, manage line-ups, and collect wrist bands.  We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable directing large groups.
